After taking Monday off, the Toronto Blue Jays (39-33, –1.44 betting units) are back at Rogers Centre Tuesday for the first of two games against the Arizona Diamondbacks (33-39, –5.24 units). First pitch is at 7:07 PM ET on Sportsnet. The Jays have won 17 of their last 25 to move back into contention in the AL East, while the Snakes are well behind in the NL West despite a four-game sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Toronto will send veteran righty Marco Estrada (4.04 FIP) to the mound on Tuesday. Estrada has made six straight quality starts – all victories for the Jays, who are now 8-5 behind Estrada for 1.74 units in earnings. Arizona will go with third-year southpaw Patrick Corbin (4.57 FIP), who’s encountered some turbulence this year at –3.41 units on a team record of 5-9.
The Diamondbacks do get a break in this series; outfielder Jose Bautista (.815 OPS) is out indefinitely for Toronto after jamming his left big toe last Thursday against Philadelphia, but Arizona will have to do without injured outfielders Chris Owings (.759 OPS) and David Peralta (.750 OPS). Socrates Brito (.699 OPS lifetime) has been called up from AAA-Reno to fill in.
