After taking the entire week off, it’s back to business for the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Clippers. They’ll meet Thursday night (10:30 PM ET, TNT) at Staples Center in their first game after the All-Star break – just hours after the NBA trade deadline passes at 3 PM ET.
The trade deadline could have a dramatic impact on this important Western Conference matchup. San Antonio (45-8 SU, 34-19 ATS) hasn’t been linked to any major deals, but the Clippers (35-18 SU, 25-25-3 ATS) might be willing to trade power forward Blake Griffin, who’s currently on the shelf with a broken hand. Any other players the Clippers send or receive in a Griffin-based transaction, or any other trade, might not be available to play Thursday.
Otherwise, this will be a rematch of their game from December 18, when San Antonio prevailed 115-107 as an 8-point home favorite. Griffin played that night for LA and scored 25 points with five rebounds and five assists. San Antonio was also at full strength; however, Thursday will be the front end of back-to-back games for the Spurs, so veterans like center Tim Duncan and point guard Tony Parker could be late scratches.
