Not only are the TCU Horned Frogs (+700) tied as second favorites to win the National Championship, but their starting quarterback is also tied for the top spot on the Heisman charts. Both Trevone Boykin and Ohio State Buckeyes running back Ezekiel Elliott are +500 at press time. Buckeyes quarterback JT Barrett is +900 to win the trophy.
The Heisman almost always goes to a quarterback these days; each of the last five winners was a quarterback, as were eight of the last nine. Playing for one of the very best teams increases the odds, too. The Buckeyes are the top favorites to win the title at +275, but voters could be split between Elliott and Barrett, and Barrett could end up splitting time at quarterback with Cardale Jones and maybe even Braxton Miller.
Boykin placed fourth in the Heisman voting last year as a junior, leading the Horned Frogs to a 12-1 record (11-2 ATS) and a massive 42-3 victory over Ole Miss (+3) at the Peach Bowl. Boykin was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year for his efforts. This year, he’ll be surrounded by enough talent to once again put the Heisman within reach.
