After shocking the world by winning the first-ever College Football Playoff, the Ohio State Buckeyes are in excellent shape to defend their National Championship. The Buckeyes are +275 favorites on the NCAAF futures market, so they’re well ahead of the Alabama Crimson Tide and the TCU Horned Frogs at +700.
The Buckeyes (14-1 SU, 10-5 ATS last year) are bringing back almost all the key players who roasted the Oregon Ducks 42-20 to win the title as 7-point underdogs. The biggest question mark will be at quarterback; Braxton Miller will try his luck as a receiver after missing all of last year with a shoulder injury, but either JT Barrett or Cardale Jones would be a suitable option playing behind a stout offensive line. Having running back Ezekiel Elliott (6.9 yards per carry) to hand off to doesn’t hurt, either.
Ohio State’s defense looks tremendous at all three levels, especially with a linebacker corps featuring Joshua Perry and Darron Lee. The Buckeyes have a fairly soft schedule, too, and could easily run the table before their key matchup on November 21 against the Michigan State Spartans (+2000). Anything short of another title will be a disappointment for the Buckeyes this year.
