The Montreal Canadiens started the New Year right with a big win at the Winter Classic. Can they get another this Wednesday night (7 PM ET, TSN) when they host the New Jersey Devils? These two teams split a home-and-home series at the end of November, with both games going past regulation tied 2-2.
Mike Condon (.907 save percentage) will get the nod for the Habs on Wednesday, after Ben Scrivens fills in for Tuesday’s road game against the Philadelphia Flyers. Condon went 2-9 in his 11 December starts, but Brendan Gallagher (10 goals in 23 games) missed the whole month for Montreal with a broken hand. Gallagher had a goal and an assist while Condon made 27 saves in Friday’s 5-1 victory over the Boston Bruins (–125 at home).
The Devils will be idle on Tuesday, so No. 1 goalie Cory Schneider (.928 SV%) will probably get the start after facing the Detroit Red Wings on Monday. Schneider stopped 20 of 21 shots, but it wasn’t enough, as Detroit (–110 away) blanked the Devils 1-0. Mike Cammalleri (14 goals, 21 assists) missed his second game for New Jersey with an upper-body injury and is considered day-to-day.
