Life without Bryce Harper hasn’t been easy for the Washington Nationals. After winning five straight to vault over .500 for the first time since mid-April, Washington suffered back-to-back losses over the weekend to fall 8 games out of first in the National League East at 37-40. The Nats will try to get things right this Thursday when they visit the last-place Miami Marlins; game time is 7 PM ET on ESPN+.

Veteran ace Stephen Strasburg (3.79 ERA) is expected to take the mound for Washington. The first overall pick in the 2009 MLB Draft appears to be in decline at age 30, losing some zip on his fastball and throwing the curve more often. However, Strasburg still strikes out 10.59 batters per nine innings, leading the Nats to a 9-7 team record after 16 starts.

The 30-46 Marlins may be last in the NL East, but they’ve been profitable against the money line thus far, buoyed by a reasonably competent starting rotation. Sandy Alcantara (3.51 ERA) is due up for Miami on Thursday; in his first full year as a starter, Alcantara has the Marlins in the black despite a team record of 6-9, with the Under at 10-5.
