It’s a tale of two seasons for the Buffalo Sabres, and that’s leading to a lot of frustration. After getting off to a dominant 9-2-1 start, the team has slipped into a downward spiral and they now find themselves with a 4-8-4 record over their last 16 games. You wouldn’t have known that in their last game, though, as the Sabres defeated the New Jersey Devils 7-1. Jack Eichel scored a goal and registered two assists in that contest, and has injected some fire into the team. That victory may be the kickstart needed for Buffalo to return to their prior form. The Calgary Flames are also coming off of a win and aim to extend their streak to three with the help of new interim head coach Geoff Ward, who’s helping the Flames figure out how best to proceed without Bill Peters. Ward’s limited results are promising so far; if he keeps them in the win column, he may be the fit that the team has been looking for.
