Sabres Welcome Hurricanes in Eastern Conference Matchup The Buffalo Sabres will look to turn things around when they host the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, starting at 7 PM ET. After five straight losses, Buffalo (9-6-2) is beginning to slide out of contention for the Eastern Conference wild-card race. Carolina sits just one point ahead of Buffalo and was also mired in a four-game losing streak prior to finally notching a win on Monday when they beat the Ottawa Senators 8-2.

Carolina’s defenseman Joel Edmundson came through in the 8-2 victory with his first goal (plus two assists) since coming to the Hurricanes in a trade with the St. Louis Blues for Justin Faulk. These were his first points on the season after going the first 17 games with none. Fellow defenseman Dougie Hamilton also added to the scoreboard on Monday, further padding his position at the top of the team in goals (8), points (11), and plus/minus (+7). Buffalo, meanwhile, will look to their captain Jack Eichel to get them over the hump against Carolina. With 8 goals and 11 assists on the season, Eichel has been a consistent contributor for the Sabres. They’ll need Eichel and the rest of Buffalo’s top line, which includes Sam Reinhart and Victor Oloffson, to carry the offensive load at home.
